Late Applications Since the Summer 2010 cycle we've accepted late applications. You can now apply for each YC cycle up till just before it starts. Just use the regular application url. If it's past the deadline, you'll automatically create a late application. We strongly encourage founders to apply by the deadline, though, because the odds of a late application being accepted are much lower. Our whole approach to reading late applications is different. Applications that arrive by the deadline are read by multiple people. Late applications are skimmed by one person in case anything sticks out. So late applications are really meant for people who didn't even hear about YC till after the deadline. It means they'll at least have a chance. Whereas if you know before the deadline that you're going to apply to YC, but are considering applying late because you're waiting for something to happen (e.g. for your demo to be more polished), then you are much better off applying by the deadline, even without whatever you're waiting for, because it's unlikely the thing you're waiting for will increase your chances as much as applying late decreases them.
If we interview a group that applies late, we don't (usually) do
it during the usual interview weekend. We arrange something ad hoc.
