About the role

Responsibilities

  • Help us produce high-quality and reproducible data to feed into our ML model.
  • Lead the automated data creation pathway (Microfluidics) and research best ways to make this process more efficient.
  • Develop and research new high-quality, high-throughput pathways of enzyme functional analysis.
  • Work with Ankit in lab and rest of the team out of the lab on data specs and best ways to create large, proprietary datasets.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD in Biology/Structural Biology.
  • Familiar with microfluidic protocols for high-throughput enzyme functionalization.
  • Comfortable with protein expression in cell (we use E. Coli) and a-cellularly (this is not strictly necessary, it’s an easy protocol to learn).
  • Comfortable with standard MolBio/Biochem lab techniques.
  • Has led/initiated their own research processes and is comfortable in a fast-paced environment.
  • Will learn and adapt quickly—we are an early-stage startup and things will break. We want someone who is willing to roll their sleeves up with us and fix things.
  • Excited about what we do! Of all the things on this list, this is perhaps the only non-negotiable. We want you to be happy and we breathe synthetic biology/climate/data all day everyday; we would love to share our enthusiasm with you! :)

Benefits

  • Competitive pay ($120-180k/year) + equity options (0.5-1.5%).
  • Full health and dental.
  • Flexible working environment—we won’t lie and say you will never have to work in person because you probably will to jam and work through ideas with all of us (we will however provide snacks + pizza during these sessions). But largely you are your own boss. Vacation days/PTO/WFH—as long as you get the work done, we don’t care. We live by the same rules you and can promise we will never ask you of anything we would never do ourselves.

About Anthrogen

Anthrogen (www.anthrogen.com) is a VC-backed startup where we work on scalable, carbon-negative polymer production using genetically engineered bacteria and enzymatic cascading. We think such a development is the next frontier for creating any organic molecule - whether that be for carbon capture, energy, industrial applications, biotech, or even space (we've got some big news about to be announced on that last one).

The only way to achieve this ambitious goal is to work together. We need wet lab biologists, computational biologists, ML researchers, chemists, and other technically savvy folks to join us! We’re not super picky about the exact skills you have before coming in - as long as you have a desire to learn, we’d love to have you!
