About the role

Responsibilities

  • Help us produce pipeline for novel enzymatic structure discovery using OpenFold, diffusion models, and in-house tools.
  • Work with large biological datasets and clean + understand them.
  • Lead model ideation, creation, and deployment for our R&D process.
  • Work with the team on all of the above and more!

Qualifications

  • PhD in Computational Biology/Computer Science/Statistics/Machine Learning/Applied Math.
  • Comfortable with diffusion models, MLMs, and other similar architectures (or has transformer research experience in general tbh).
  • Comfortable with protein models (both structure and sequence prediction algorithms)—this is NOT strictly necessary for candidates who have strong academic ML backgrounds otherwise and can absorb relevant literature quickly.
  • Strong math + stats background.
  • We use Python/PyTorch (like most research environments in academia + startups). You don’t have to know this (it’s pretty intuitive) but of course it helps.
  • Has led/initiated their own research processes and is comfortable in a fast-paced environment.
  • Will learn and adapt quickly—we are an early-stage startup and things will break. We want someone who is willing to roll their sleeves up with us and fix things.
  • Excited about what we do! Of all the things on this list, this is perhaps the only non-negotiable. We want you to be happy and we breathe synthetic biology/climate/data all day everyday; we would love to share our enthusiasm with you! :)

Benefits

  • Competitive pay ($120k-180k/year) + equity options (0.5-1.5%).
  • Full health and dental.
  • Flexible working environment—we won’t lie and say you will never have to work in person because you probably will to jam and work through ideas with all of us (we will however provide snacks + pizza during these sessions). But largely you are your own boss. Vacation days/PTO/WFH—as long as you get the work done, we don’t care. We live by the same rules you and can promise we will never ask you of anything we would never do ourselves.
  • We’re based in SF. Depending on the nature of the work, if relocation is necessary, we will make sure to cover all related costs.

About Anthrogen

Anthrogen (www.anthrogen.com) is a VC-backed startup where we work on scalable, carbon-negative polymer production using genetically engineered bacteria and enzymatic cascading. We think such a development is the next frontier for creating any organic molecule - whether that be for carbon capture, energy, industrial applications, biotech, or even space (we've got some big news about to be announced on that last one).

The only way to achieve this ambitious goal is to work together. We need wet lab biologists, computational biologists, ML researchers, chemists, and other technically savvy folks to join us! We’re not super picky about the exact skills you have before coming in - as long as you have a desire to learn, we’d love to have you!
