Senior Quality Engineer

Capi was founded by Mitch Riley, Scott Liddle, and Tom Watson. Mitch and Scott were COO/CFO/GC and CRO/CMO at Taptap Send, a remittance unicorn, and have spent two decades between them working in emerging markets. Tom is a third-time founder having founded Hubble and P4SD.

Role Overview

As our first Quality Engineer, you'll play a pivotal role in establishing a culture of quality within our development process. You'll be responsible for ensuring we ship high-quality software and monitoring deployed systems to ensure they continue performing as expected. While we need to maintain rapid product velocity, you'll need to balance quality with speed. Your approach should be pragmatic, finding solutions that strike the right balance between building robust software and meeting business priorities and risks, while building our best practices over time.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain QA strategy, processes, workflows, and best practices

• Champion “shift-left” quality practices and work closely with product, engineering and design to ensure quality is integrated throughout the product development

• Develop automated testing frameworks to accelerate testing cycles and improve efficiency

• Conduct performance and security testing to ensure our systems are robust, scalable, and protect sensitive financial data

• Improve our monitoring and observability to gain insights into system health

• Utilise quantitative and qualitative data to identify areas to improve quality, performance bottlenecks, optimise system performance, and proactively address potential issues

• Lead manual testing of large product changes, defining test cases and plans covering functional, non-functional, performance, and security aspects

Requirements

• Strong understanding of software testing methodologies, including agile testing and TDD

• Proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g. Python, JavaScript)

• Experience in a fast-paced VC-backed tech startup or scale-up environment

• Experience designing and implementing automated testing frameworks and determining appropriate testing coverage and types for different system components

• Understanding of monitoring and observability principles and how they help track system performance and behaviour

• Strong written and verbal communication skills for effective collaboration with developers and stakeholders

• Language requirements: English

• Location: London, Paris or Remote

• Scripting or programming skills (e.g. JavaScript, Python, Bash)

Additional Information

• This is a full-time position with competitive salary, share options, and benefits

• If based in London or Paris, we require 3 days a week in office

• Ideal Start date: May, 2025 (we are aware that a notice period may need to be fulfilled and can adjust accordingly)
