Decarbonizing the fashion industry
The fashion industry is responsible for 5-10% of global greenhouse gas emissions (GHG). More and more companies are using Carbon Management Platforms to measure and create CO2 reduction plans. However, most of these generalist solutions are not tailored for a fashion brand, which requires detailed insights on materials and manufacturing processes throughout the entire lifecycle of its products.
This is why we built Carbonfact, the leading Carbon Management Platform for the textile and fashion industry. Our platform automates life cycle assessment (LCA) at the product level, enabling brands to gain a high-resolution understanding of their Scope 3 emissions and model out product-level changes on the company’s broader environmental trajectory.
We raised a total of $17 million from Alven, Headline, Y Combinator and angel investors. Now, hundreds of brands and fashion groups are using Carbonfact (e.g. Carhartt, Allbirds, Adore Me, Armedangels, Fusalp, Allbirds, Happy Socks, etc.).
You can’t build a great product without a solid foundation: our Software is the backbone of our company, and we're looking for talented Engineers to help us shape it. Our product revolves around three main pieces of Software, all connected by the data pipes our Data team builds and runs: our calculation engine (aka the “LCA engine”), accompanied by our Emission Factors Service (aka EFS), Niklas, our NestJS backend and API, and Platform, the customer-facing NextJS web app.
As an Engineer at Carbonfact, you'll work on a modern tech stack, enjoying the benefits of type safety with Typescript, and leveraging the power of Google Cloud Platform and BigQuery. Our custom dbt solution provides robust data Engineering foundations, enabling us to build upon views created by our data team, all while keeping our stack simple and lean in line with our Simplify principle. You'll have the autonomy to own projects from start to finish, from querying our BigQuery views with SQL to building frontend components with React and Storybook.
Our team follows the Shape Up approach, prioritizing regular interactions between Engineers and leadership to ensure we deliver value to customers quickly. We emphasize strong test coverage, particularly in our calculation components, and are progressively expanding testing to enhance feature reliability and stability. While we encourage Engineers to contribute across the codebase, we're introducing scoped ownership and practicing 'Backup ownership' to foster collaboration and shared understanding through weekly pairings and discussions on priorities and technical decisions.
We believe in Product Engineers and Computational Engineers who can work independently and collaboratively to bring features to life. We're a small, strong team with members from top companies like Airbnb, Google, and Alan, and we're looking to grow with Engineers who share our passion for building a great product
Engineers with excellent Software Engineering skills and a strong desire to learn and grow, we believe you can adapt to our stack.
We've defined two Engineering roles to align with different interests and strengths: Product Engineers focus on full-stack development and user-facing features, while Computation Engineers concentrate on backend systems and technical challenges.
