About the role

Depot is growing rapidly and reinventing the software build space, so we are now looking for our first dedicated marketing hire to share our story and connect us with our future customers. This a rare opportunity to build a marketing program that will be critical to propelling our startup’s growth trajectory which already has 500+ paying customers and is growing at double-digit rates every month.

Depot has created a build performance and developer productivity platform unlike any other. We’ve turned what it means to build software locally and in CI upside down by making performance a top-level feature rather than an afterthought. Our platform accelerates existing tools and services like Docker builds and GitHub Actions, saving Depot customers all over the world literal years in build time.

Responsibilities

  • Define & execute marketing strategy: Develop Depot’s end-to-end marketing plan that covers customer acquisition, activation, and expansion. Prioritize marketing channels based on budget, audience, and potential ROI.
  • Content & campaign ownership: Create and manage a content calendar that positions Depot as the market leader in build performance. Produce and share engaging content that educates developers on build performance, build tools, and Depot features & value propositions.
  • Demand generation & lead nurturing: Build and optimize funnels that drive high-intent ICP leads for our Sales team. Collaborate with the founders, engineering team, and sales team to track conversion metrics & refine targeting and messaging.
  • Analytics & experimentation: Own marketing analytics by defining key metrics, setting up dashboards, tracking performance, and communicating results back to the founders. Use this data to drive and iterate on new campaigns & channels to continuously grow, refine, and optimize the customer acquisition funnel.
  • Cross team collaboration: Work closely with the engineering team and founders to coordinate product launches and marketing for new market needs.
  • Team building: As the founding marketing hire, you’ll eventually grow into leading the marketing function. You’ll help define roles, onboard new team members, and shape the direction of Depot’s marketing function.

Skills & Experience

  • 5+ years of experience in a marketing role with a focus on developers
  • Confident in defining, tracking, and communicating key metrics around marketing initiatives
  • Fluent in various analytics tools like Google Analytics, ahrefs, PostHog, etc.
  • Experienced in building out content strategies like content marketing, social media, SEO, and email campaigns
  • Hands on experience with paid channels like LinkedIn, Reddit, etc. and their associated budget management
  • Comfortable and excited by the idea of working in a startup environment with ambiguity, resources constraints, and shifting priorities
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work independently in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills & comfort collaborating with colleagues asynchronously across timezones
  • A strong desire for ownership, you should be able to both define goals & execute on them from idea to measurement

About the interview

Our interview process focuses on making sure we all would enjoy working together, so we try to keep things practical and to the point.

The general flow goes like this:

  1. Phone screen with a founder to get to know you, what you enjoy working on, what you hate working on, and where you want to go in your career. It’s also an opportunity to chat more about Depot, how we see the world, what we are looking to do next, and what we believe we need to get there.
  2. Interview with a core member of the team you’re joining. You’ll chat with another core member who will help evaluate if you’re excited about working on the types of problems we’re setting out to solve. It’s also an opportunity to learn more about Depot from someone who isn’t a founder.
  3. Call with the second founder. Both Depot founders try to meet everyone we are interviewing currently as we’re still at a practical size for that. It’s an opportunity to ask more questions of one another and verify we are all on the same page.
  4. Final call to iron out any details, and then we tend to send an offer over for you to review.
