Design Engineer

We're seeking a creative and technically skilled Design Engineer to join our team, combining strong design fundamentals with modern frontend development expertise.

Position Overview

Our ideal candidate bridges the gap between design and development, designing and implementing beautiful, responsive interfaces while maintaining excellent code quality and performance. This role is central to our product development and will be responsible for defining and evolving our design systems, spec'ing new features, and ensuring elegant UI/UX across all our products—both buyer-facing and brand/dealership-facing.

Required Skills & Experience

• Expertise in Figma for creating and maintaining design systems, including brand design systems, spec’ing UX and flows, and collaborating with stakeholders

• Proven experience building and deploying React applications in production environments

• Strong proficiency with React and component-based design systems

• Active personal portfolio showcasing your design and development work

• Deep understanding of frontend performance optimization and responsive design principles

• Strong eye for design, typography, spacing, and visual hierarchy

• Experience with modern JavaScript/TypeScript development practices

Responsibilities

• Serve as a shared design resource across all product touchpoints, ensuring a cohesive, high-quality experience for vehicle buyers and business users.

• Utilize Figma to create, refine, and document design systems and UX patterns.

• Collaborate with backend engineers to implement pixel-perfect interfaces

• Develop and maintain responsive React.js web applications

• Create reusable front-end component libraries and design systems

• Spec new features with an optimal balance between aesthetics and performance

• Mentor junior designers and frontend developers in development and design principles

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with testing frameworks (Cypress)

• Ability to rapidly ship neat and performant frontend code in React applications
