Ember Copilot

The only medical scribe that reduces claim denials by 55%

At Ember, we're tackling one of healthcare's most costly and overlooked challenges: the massive inefficiency in clinical documentation and revenue cycle management. Medical practices lose billions annually due to incomplete documentation, missed billing opportunities, and denied claims - issues that stem from antiquated systems that force clinicians to choose between patient care and paperwork. We combine ambient listening technology with deep understanding of medical billing requirements to eliminate the administrative burden that plagues healthcare providers.

Hey everyone! We’re Charlene and Warren, co-founders of Ember Copilot.

TL;DR

Ember Copilot helps surgery centers automate medical scribing, coding, and billing. Our autonomous coding solution achieves 98% accuracy and reduces denials by 55%.

Why does medical coding matter?

Medical coding determines how much healthcare providers get paid for their services. Without accurate coding, claims are denied, delaying or preventing payments for the work providers do.

Why are we building autonomous medical coding?

Today, many doctors still handle coding themselves, often relying on Google searches to navigate complex rules they weren't trained for. For example, as one billing manager shared:

"We've got doctors that like to unbundle stuff, and not understanding that it's bundled, then you can't bill them separately."

This challenge becomes even more significant in surgical procedures, where multiple codes, complex bundling rules, and specific documentation requirements create confusion.

Some practices outsource coding and billing, but this approach isn’t perfect either. Coders aren’t in the exam room and often lack the full context of the patient encounter. This leads to time-consuming back-and-forth clarifications with physicians, delaying claims and introducing inaccuracies.

Solution

To help providers get started, we've made ICD10codes.ai free for everyone to use. Simply insert a diagnosis or your full clinical note to get the most relevant ICD-10 code back. This works for both diagnoses and procedures.

Our complete system goes further:

  • Handles ICD-10, CPT, and DRG while integrating directly with EHRs like EPIC.
  • Flags bundling issues, suggests appropriate modifiers, and validates documentation against payer requirements in real time.

This is especially valuable for surgical coding where providers deal with complex bundling rules and specific documentation requirements from payers like UnitedHealthcare’s enhanced requirements.

By combining autonomous coding with our scribing product, Ember Copilot helps providers identify missing documentation and meet requirements while the patient is still in the room. It’s like having a coding expert present at all times—without any overhead or delays.
