Proactive primary care, scaled with AI
We're building the future of primary care. 99% of your health is defined outside the doctor’s office. Empirical helps users manage it.
Empirical Health is a primary care provider that uses artificial intelligence and health sensors on wearable devices (Apple Watch, Fitbit, Google Pixel, Samsung watch and more) to scale proactive primary care to everyone. We're building a product that gives every user an AI-powered personal health assistant, backed by a real human doctor who can provide actual diagnosis, treatment, and care.
In this role you will work with our doctors and interact with real patients to build the tools needed to keep them healthy. Do you want to use your software engineering and design skills to save lives and make healthcare better for everyone? At Empirical Health, we're inventing the future of primary care – and we want you.
Software engineer interns are responsible for a machine learning or full stack project that will have an immediate impact on the health of our users. Internships will be in Summer 2025 and ideally last 12 week starting sometime in May or June depending on school schedules.
Some examples of what you might do:
We expect interns to push code to production in the first week and complete a major project that affects real patients by the end of the internship.
We are currently working in person 5 days a week in New York City (Union Square in Manhattan), but are remote friendly when necessary.
Ideally, you have:
Nice to haves:
React Native (mobile app), NodeJS (server), and Typescript (both)
PostgreSQL (database)
Python (data science and machine learning)
Pay for this position is approximately $8000 USD per month
Free lunch in office
In person mentorship

2 technical interviews that are 45-60 minutes each.
The first interview will start with a 15 minute getting to know you section where we will ask questions about past experiences and technical problems solved and evaluate the culture fit.
This section will be followed by a 45 minute technical section focussed on data structures, algorithms, and system design.
Salary is $8k per month
We're building the future of primary care.
Primary care is the quarterback of the healthcare system–the doctor whose job is to keep you healthy. The best primary care available today can prevent 1 in 2 hospitalizations, but requires 5x as many doctors. That won’t scale to our country, let alone our world.
Empirical Health is using artificial intelligence, health sensors, and value-based payment models to scale proactive primary care to everyone. We’re building a product that gives every user an AI-powered personal health assistant, backed by a real human doctor who can provide actual diagnosis, treatment, and care.
