AVP, Data Governance

The role: Flutterwave is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Associate Vice President (AVP) of Data Governance to join our dynamic data team. The AVP, Data Governance will play a pivotal role in defining and implementing data governance frameworks, policies, and procedures to ensure the integrity, security, and quality of our data assets. This role requires strong leadership, strategic thinking, and hands-on experience in data governance within the fintech or financial services industry.

What Your Day-to-Day Activities Will Be Like ● Develop and implement data governance strategies, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices. ● Establish data governance frameworks and standards for data quality, data privacy, data security, and data management across the organization. ● Collaborate with cross-functional teams including data engineering, data science, product management, and compliance to drive data governance initiatives and promote a culture of data-driven decision-making. ● Define and maintain data governance metrics, KPIs, and dashboards to monitor and track the effectiveness of data governance efforts. ● Lead data governance committees and working groups to address data-related issues, assess risks, and drive continuous improvement. ● Conduct regular audits and assessments of data governance processes and controls to identify gaps and opportunities for enhancement. ● Provide guidance and support to business units and stakeholders on data governance policies, procedures, and best practices. ● Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory developments related to data governance and recommend strategies to maintain compliance and competitive advantage.

Required competency and skill set to be a Waver:

● Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field; advanced degree preferred. ● Minimum 12 years of experience in data governance, data management, or related roles within the fintech or financial services industry. ● Strong understanding of data governance principles, frameworks, and best practices. ● Proven track record of developing and implementing data governance strategies, policies, and procedures. ● Experience with data governance tools and technologies such as Collibra, Informatica, or similar platforms. ● Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills. ● Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities simultaneously. ● Strong understanding of regulatory requirements such as GDPR, CCPA, and other relevant data protection laws. ● Professional certifications in data management or data governance (e.g., CDMP, DGSP, CIMP) are a plus
