About the role

Legacy is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our small but mighty team of Engineers building our customer experiences, backend systems, and migration to newer technologies. The ideal candidate is highly motivated, analytical, organized, and committed to getting sh@# done.

This is a full-time position, based in NYC, reporting to the VP of Technology, Jack Chu (prev. a tech leader at Awa, Bonobos, and Modern Age).

What you’ll do:

  • Collaborate with design, product management, and fellow engineers to build and plan new features for Legacy’s web properties
  • Write robust, scalable, well-designed software that delivers great value to the business, is easy to maintain, and are well tested
  • Push and refine our technology, user experience, and software development practices
  • Elevate the teams collective knowledge by helping or mentoring others
  • Help us transition our front-end from WordPress to React/Remix and our back-end from PHP/Laravel to NestJS

Minimum qualifications

  • 6+ years of professional software development experience
  • 2+ years of experience with Typescript or JavaScript, and node.js
  • 2+ years of experience with relational databases such as Postgres
  • Proficient with current standards in HTML and CSS
  • Experience with RESTful API design/architecture
  • BS degree in Computer Science, similar technical field of study, or equivalent practical experience
  • Passionate about culture, career development, and being part of a mission driven company

Preferred qualifications

  • Built production applications with React and/or Remix
  • Experience with APIs with NestJS
  • Experience with AWS, Heroku, or similar IaaS or PaaS providers and Infrastructure as Code (CDK/Terraform/OpenTofu)
  • PHP/Laravel experience  is a bonus as it’s our existing legacy system
  • Professional experience in the e-commerce and/or health/wellness industry

What we offer

  • New York Pay Range: $150,000-$165,000 USD
  • Hybrid in our NYC Flatiron office 3-4 days a week
  • Healthcare. We offer a selection of healthcare plans through TriNet as well as dental and vision plans. We are committed to paying 75% of health insurance, dental and vision premiums for you and your dependents.
  • Unlimited Time Off. Legacy has an unlimited time-off policy. If you need to take a vacation day or week, do so. We want you to bring your best self to work, and often that's going to mean taking a moment to recharge so you don't burnout. Because it's easy to put off taking some vacation when we're hard at work, you are required to take at least two 1-week holidays each year.
  • 12 Weeks Parental Leave. All employees are eligible for 12 weeks of paid parental leave. Those 12 weeks will be paid at 100% and cover both the primary caregiver and secondary caregiver (i.e., the one who pushed and the one who didn’t!). We know how exciting and exhausting being a parent can be, so we want to make sure you have all the time you need with your new addition before coming back to work. This applies to biological children and adopted children.
  • Transit for NYC Employees. Having a vibrant office environment is a key part of the Legacy experience. In order to make this a reality for everyone, Legacy will reimburse each employee up to 4 round-trips per week, or $99/month.
  • Executive Coach. Legacy provides an executive coach twice a month to every full-time employee to help accelerate your growth as a person and colleague.

  • Charity Contribution. You are expected to choose a charity that is your 'primary' charity. For each employee, Legacy will match $2,500/year of your contribution, so think about how you can double the impact for causes you care about!
