About the role

Momentic is the modern standard for software testing. Our AI-powered platform is already accelerating engineering teams at some of the fastest-growing companies in the world, including Quora, Retool, Podium, Chegg, Runway, and many more.

We’re currently a team of six looking to hire a frontend engineer to take ownership of the entire UI. As a member of the founding team, you’ll work with cutting edge AI technology, interact with world-class customers, and influence the overall direction of the company.

We’re on a mission to revolutionize how software is built, enabling teams to move faster without breaking things. If you’re looking to work in a high-ambiguity environment and passionate about building products that delight users, we would love to hear from you!

In this role, you will:

  • Own the entire product frontend, including our NextJS cloud app and our upcoming Electron local app
  • Craft novel UI paradigms that give users the simplicity, visibility, and guidability they need when interacting with AI agents
  • Make important decisions about the technologies, frameworks, and design patterns we adopt
  • Interact with customers regularly so we can continuously improve our UX
  • Create, design, and advocate for projects you believe are high priority during roadmap planning
  • Occasionally make changes to the backend if needed for delivery of full-stack features (less than 20% of your time will be spent here)
  • Document everything as you go and share your expertise with the team!

You might work on projects like:

  • A new, Notion-like editor that makes writing Momentic tests as intuitive as blogging
  • AI auto-healing that automatically stays up to date with test specs and design docs
  • Customizable, AI-powered network request mocking to accelerate frontend testing

To succeed in this role, you’ll need to:

  • Be product-focused. You have customer empathy, and you design in-app experiences with the end user in mind. You should yearn to solve problems for customers!
  • Enjoy solving hard problems that have both product and technical ambiguity. The software testing space is plagued by inconsistencies and fragmented stacks. You’ll need to be able to immerse yourself in unfamiliar topics and understand complex technical concepts to make informed decisions.
  • Have some experience with our stack: React, Next.js, Tailwind, Radix UI, Playwright, TipTap, Electron. If you aren’t as familiar with these technologies, you should be a self-sufficient learner and a curious individual.
  • Have a high sense of agency and accountability, so you can prioritize your work without much outside input.
  • Have great communication skills, both written and verbal. We’re looking for people who are not only smart but able to articulate their thoughts clearly.
  • Be interested in developer tooling and AI. We’re driven by the idea of accelerating other engineers with this amazing new technology, and hope you are too!

None of these things are required, but they’ll make your application stand out (please mention them when applying!):

  • Experience building CI, testing, or other developer tools.
  • Experience working with browser internals.
  • Other experience that makes you particularly knowledgeable about the deep, dark, undocumented corners of the web.

Our benefits include:

  • Attractive compensation.
  • Generous medical, dental, and vision benefits.
  • Paid company holidays, sick time, and unlimited time off.
  • Monthly credits to spend on commuting, mental health, or meals.
  • Unlimited snacks and beverages in our office.
  • Daily lunch at a variety of restaurants in the SoMa area.

About the team

We’re a fast-moving, low-ego, scrappy team of 6 backed by great investors like Y Combinator, General Catalyst, AI Grant, FundersClub, and angel investors like Aaron Levie, Theo Browne, and Kulveer Taggar.

We believe that brainstorming, planning, and communicating occur most effectively in person. Our office is located in the San Francisco SoMa District, shared with other inspiring YC-backed startups. We come into the office and share lunch together nearly every day. From time to time, we also enjoy team dinners, happy hours, and company off-sites!

About the interview

  1. Recruiter screen
  2. 45-minute technical screen over VC
  3. 3-hour on-site at our SOMA office or over VC for non-SF applicants.
  4. Reference checks if applicable and offer!

About Momentic

One of the most tedious parts of software development is testing. The testing industry has long been plagued with archaic and fragmented software, with Selenium turning 20 years old this year.

By leveraging cutting-edge AI, we’re able to automate the most time-consuming tasks so engineers can focus on what matters, shipping features to customers. Engineers at companies like Chegg and Retool use Momentic to author tests 10X faster.

Momentic is one of the fastest-growing startups to come out of YC with strong traction. We’re generating revenue and are well-funded by some of the best investors in the Valley with years of runway.
