PlayAI (YC W23) is at the forefront of generative voice and conversational LLMs. With our Speech Synthesis and Voice Cloning models, we are building SOTA conversational AI products.

The mission is clear: we are building hyperrealistic conversational voice agents & voice AI infrastructure to enable every business, developer, and creator to build the most human-like automated experiences to ever exist. This will completely change the way we interact with technology.

The need and demand are clear. This past year, we have raised $20M+ in seed funding and have seen significant growth, with 1M monthly active users and 250K developers, with revenue growing 30% MoM.

What Are We Looking For?

We believe that credentials, years of experience, and familiarity with various tech stacks pale in comparison to a deep, internal drive to create delightful products. If you don’t (yet) know how the app router in Next.js works - that’s fine. But if you’re okay leaving a small UI bug in production over a weekend - please don’t apply.

• Extreme passion for building excellent products. Ideally, you’ve built impressive stuff in your free time as well.

• Capacity to ship end-to-end features quickly. We jump at the opportunity to take charge of a core feature and build it out in a week.

• Ability to thrive in ambiguity. We trust each other to make high-quality product and engineering decisions independently.

• Always be thinking about your teammates. Shipping code fast is good, but not at the cost of making your teammates' lives harder (and your future self too). A great engineer can make the call by understanding the tradeoffs well and spending the extra effort to save their future self and their teammates along the way.

• Work out of our HQ in Palo Alto. We truly believe that the in-person culture trumps everything else.

Qualifications:

• 5+ years of software development experience, though we care more about passion and love of building than the exact number of years.

• Working experience building full-stack applications, all the way from React, Tailwind, and Next.js to the LLM layer and managing infrastructure. We support multi-cloud and on-prem as well.

• Experience building directly for users.

• Self-directed and comfortable working autonomously. We are a small & scrappy team that builds for the largest enterprises in the world. We should be comfortable providing value autonomously while supporting each other.

• Experience improving engineering systems, processes, and tooling to increase efficiency and maintainability.

• Ability to mentor and support junior engineers, fostering a culture of learning and collaboration.

• Contribution to hiring efforts by identifying, attracting, and assessing top engineering talent.

• A mindset of continuous improvement, actively working to enhance both the technical and team aspects of PlayAI.
