About the Role
We are looking for a Senior Back End Engineer who thrives under pressure and is eager to solve complex problems. You should have at least 5 years of experience in backend engineering, with deep expertise in Python and AWS. If you want to be on the front lines of building AI-driven solutions that push the boundaries of what technology can do, this is your opportunity. You'll be responsible for developing robust, scalable backend systems that form the backbone of our virtual sales agents. This is not a job for the faint-hearted—it's a chance to make an impact in a high-stakes startup environment. This is a full-time, in-office position located in Pleasant Grove, Utah.
Responsibilities
- Design and Implement Back-End Systems: Build and maintain scalable and reliable backend systems using Python and AWS. The code you write will be at the heart of our platform, and it needs to be bulletproof. Expect to be held to high standards of quality, performance, and scalability.
- API Development: Develop RESTful APIs to connect front-end and back-end components seamlessly. You will work closely with our front-end and mobile development teams to ensure every request is optimized and every interaction is flawless.
- Cloud Infrastructure Management: Architect, implement, and maintain cloud infrastructure on AWS. If something goes down at 2 AM, we expect our systems to be ready for recovery—and you'll play a big part in ensuring we never reach that point.
- Data Management: Develop efficient data storage solutions and data pipelines that can handle terabytes of data and support AI models. You will work closely with our data science team to ensure they have what they need when they need it. Efficiency is non-negotiable.
- Collaborate with Cross-Functional Teams: Collaborate across the board—front-end developers, data scientists, product managers—to integrate new features and maintain system cohesion. You'll be expected to challenge ideas and contribute to planning sessions to ensure we always deliver top-tier solutions.
- Ensure Security and Compliance: Our systems handle sensitive customer information, and security is paramount. You will implement secure authentication, data privacy measures, and ensure compliance with all relevant standards. If you're not paranoid about security, this is not the right role for you.
- Optimize System Performance: Continuously monitor and optimize system performance. Latency issues, reliability hiccups, and scalability challenges are not just problems—they're puzzles you'll be solving daily.
- Mentor Team Members: Support and elevate junior engineers by providing hands-on guidance, conducting rigorous code reviews, and fostering a culture of learning. We're looking for leaders who set high standards and pull others up with them.
Requirements
- Mandatory Experience:
- At least 5 years of professional experience in backend software engineering, specifically in saas or artificial intelligence applications.
- Strong proficiency in Python and hands-on experience with AWS services (e.g., EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda).
- This is an in-person position. You will work full-time out of our office in Lehi, Utah.
- Technical Proficiency:
- Proven experience developing RESTful APIs.
- Deep familiarity with AWS cloud infrastructure, including serverless architecture and containerization (e.g., Docker).
- Strong experience with relational and NoSQL databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, DynamoDB).
- Expert in version control (Git) and CI/CD tools.
- In-depth understanding of event-driven architectures and microservices.
- Experience with monitoring and logging tools (e.g., CloudWatch, ELK Stack) to keep systems performing optimally.
- Problem Solving and Ownership:
- Strong analytical skills for troubleshooting and optimizing backend systems. You need to be comfortable diving into the unknown, solving complex problems, and owning your solutions end-to-end.
- Ability to take full ownership of features and see them through from concept to deployment. If you're the kind of person who gets things done and takes initiative, you'll fit right in.
- Leadership:
- Experience mentoring junior engineers and leading technical discussions. You should be comfortable setting high expectations, giving constructive feedback, and raising the bar for everyone on the team.
- Ability to establish and enforce coding standards. We care deeply about the quality of our codebase, and you should too.
- Agile & Scrum Experience:
- Strong experience working in Scrum and Agile frameworks. You should thrive in a fast-paced environment where priorities can change quickly.
- Active participation in sprint planning, retrospectives, and daily stand-ups. We want people who contribute and aren't afraid to speak up.
- Ability to work effectively within a collaborative team environment and help guide the team toward successful, on-time deliveries.
Core Values Alignment
- We value creativity, collaboration, and excellence in every aspect of our work. We want people who are passionate about solving challenging problems, have a relentless drive for success, and are eager to contribute to the growth of the company. If you're not committed to pushing yourself and your teammates, this is not the right place for you.
Work Authorization
Must be eligible to work in the U.S. and available to work full-time in-office. Visa sponsorship available.
