About the role

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Infrastructure Engineer to architect, deploy, and maintain our high-performance computing environment that powers our foundation models for Earth. The infrastructure you build will form the foundation of services that critical sectors will come to depend on for operational continuity and disaster preparedness. You'll work with cutting-edge technologies to build resilient, scalable systems that can handle massive computational workloads and deliver reliable predictions that national infrastructure operators can stake their operations on.

Key Responsibilities

  • GPU Infrastructure Management: Design, deploy, and maintain GPU clusters to support high-performance computing needs. Ensure optimal performance and availability of GPU servers.
  • High-Availability System Design: Build infrastructure with redundancy and failover capabilities suitable for services that critical sectors like energy, transportation, and emergency services will rely on.
  • Distributed Computing at Scale: Maintain and optimize our Kubernetes and Ray clusters for distributed ML inference and PB scale data-processing workloads.
  • Data Management: Design and maintain data storage solutions for petabyte-scale weather and simulation data, with a focus on accessibility and performance.
  • Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Utilize Terraform to automate infrastructure provisioning, scaling, and management processes. Ensure cloud environments are secure, scalable, and reliable.
  • Security and Compliance: Enforce security best practices throughout our infrastructure, including network policies, access controls, and vulnerability management.
  • Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD): Collaborate with development teams to implement CI/CD pipelines, automating testing and deployment processes to enhance software delivery.
  • Monitoring and Optimization: Implement monitoring solutions to track system performance, identify bottlenecks, and proactively address potential issues.

Qualifications

  • Experience: Proven experience in infrastructure engineering and automation.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficiency in Terraform and infrastructure as code principles.
    • Strong experience with Kubernetes for orchestrating containerized workloads.
    • Hands-on experience with Ray or similar distributed computing frameworks.
    • Familiarity with cloud providers (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and their HPC offerings.
    • Knowledge of monitoring and observability best practices.
    • Familiarity with CI/CD tools and best practices.
    • Solid understanding of networking concepts and security best practices.
  • Soft Skills: Excellent problem-solving abilities, strong communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Why Join Silurian?

Join us to build technology that critical infrastructure operators will rely on to navigate an increasingly unpredictable world. You'll work alongside a team of passionate researchers and engineers dedicated to making a tangible impact on global challenges by solving tough research and engineering problems. We offer competitive compensation, meaningful equity, and the opportunity to make a tangible impact on society's most essential systems.

How to Apply

If you're excited about leveraging your infrastructure engineering skills to contribute to groundbreaking work in Earth system simulation, we'd love to hear from you. Please submit your resume and a cover letter detailing your relevant experience and interest in the role. We value practical experience and problem-solving skills over formal qualifications, so feel free to include links to relevant projects or contributions.

About Silurian

At Silurian, we’re building foundation models to simulate the Earth, starting with the weather. Our mission is to scale these models to their full potential and push them to the limits of physical predictability. Ultimately, we aim to model all infrastructure that is impacted by weather including the energy grid, agriculture, logistics, and defense. Hence: simulate the Earth.
