Founding Product Designer
About the role
We’re looking for a strong, generalist Product Designer to join our small, speedy, and mission-driven team.
As a member of our founding team and Toko’s first full-time design hire, you’ll have an outsized equity stake in the company, significantly impact a first-of-its-kind AI-driven product, and play a pivotal role in building a fun, diverse, and inclusive team culture.
We’re looking for someone who speaks Chinese to serve our primary market, Taiwan.

💻 What you'll do
- Take end-to-end ownership of the design process: seeing a new feature through from conducting user research, to synthesizing user pain points, to finalized designs.
- Conduct user testing to identify points of friction and iterate on designs to address them
- Translate user pain points, ideas, and sketches into high fidelity mobile mocks and wireframes ready to be built by engineers
- Work closely with founders to design and prioritize new features
- Improve discoverability of existing features by designing new UI layouts and UX flows
- Support a variety of misc. design work across product, growth, and admin
😄 Who you are
- You enjoy being scrappy and moving quickly — you are entrepreneurial
- You thrive when working as the only designer in a small team (we're a team of 6!), but also enjoy collaborating with engineering and product
- You have strong English and Chinese communication skills (we conduct user interviews in Chinese!)
- You have 3+ years of industry experience, some of which (if not most/all) is mobile-first consumer
- You would consider yourself a generalist, with UI/UX design one of your strengths
- You are highly generative

- You have experience working with learning or education products
- You’re excited about designing for totally new, AI-driven experiences
- You have experience working with designing or using consumer products in Taiwan, Hong Kong, Korea, or Japan
- You’re an avid language learner who actively uses language learning apps
- You also speak Korean or Japanese
