Hi there! We’re Rangel and Ahmad and today we’re excited to be launching the Drop on Kickstarter. The Drop is our wearable AI pendant and app that automatically tracks what you eat throughout the day.

How it works

The Drop uses computer vision and AI to know when you're eating food. Once the smart AI chip on the device classifies something as food, the LED light turns on and the device starts recording what you're eating. Afterwards, the cropped image of the meal will be sent to the cloud for analysis. The algorithms will then break down your meal into calories, protein, carbs and fats, which you could see right away in the app on your phone.

Why are we building this?

We launched Rex Nutribot on WhatsApp in December 2023. We made calorie tracking as simple as sending a photo or a text to a friend. More than 20,000 users later, we learned that nutrition tracking is still not a solved problem. Every solution on the market requires too much input from the user, and most don't manage to create the habit to track what they eat.

A real solution needs to be as user-friendly and intuitive as fitness tracking is. It needs to be a wearable that you can just put on in the morning and forget about. For that reason we developed The Drop: the first fully automated nutrition tracker.

By fully automating meal tracking we want to enable everyone to learn what and how much they eat, understand their eating habits and transform their diet to optimize for health and longevity.

The team

Our core team consists of Harvard and ETH Zurich engineers and we are backed by two of the largest and most well-known incubators: Y Combinator and Entrepreneur First. Our co-founder and CTO, Ahmad, is a computer vision engineer who previously worked in autonomous retail with a Masters in Robotics from ETH Zurich, and our co-founder and CEO, Rangel, is an AI engineer who graduated with a B.A. in Computer Science from Harvard. We met at Entrepreneur First in Paris in 2022 and have been working together since.
