Wearables and AI to predict and prevent sepsis outside the hospital
Patchd is a company that was started to save Robert's (one of the co-founders) life after he suffered 18 episodes of a condition known as sepsis. At Patchd, we use varying types of Deep Neural Networks and wearables, to analyze subtle variations in biometric data, to predict the onset of sepsis in patients at home. When it is detected early, it can usually be prevented. Sepsis is a problem that affects 1.7M Americans every year and kills 270,000. Compare this with Breast cancer at 350,000 cases and 40,000 deaths, or heart attacks at 750,000 cases with 118,000 deaths. Patchd is working to solve sepsis, the number one cause of death in hospitals.
