Company Launches

tl:dr; LifestyleRx provides virtual care for Type 2 diabetes reversal.  Our doctors guide patients through lifestyle changes to reverse the underlying process of diabetes, billing insurance so we can deliver life-changing outcomes at little or no cost to the patient.  We have 2,000 patients in our program today and are adding 500 more every month.

We’re Dan, Brendan, Jason, and Jack, the cofounders of LifestyleRx!

We are all former health tech founders who previously built and exited EMR businesses in Canada.  We’re united by our passion for helping diabetic patients as we all have close family who are diabetic.  And we’re also rooted in a real-world understanding of the complex healthcare system, warts and all, from our years working in it.

Another Diabetes Startup?

The market is full of employer-facing diabetes management apps that haven’t worked. Diabetes costs more than $237B in direct medical expenses every year, and there are >100M Americans with either prediabetes or Type 2 diabetes.

The solution to this problem needs two things:

  1. A focus on diabetes reversal, where sustained drug-free remission is the goal.  Lots of apps reduce diabetes costs by ~5%.  We aim for 95%.
  2. Use the healthcare system we have – bill fee-for-service, accept patient referrals, be covered for everyone with insurance – and build a lean operation to power it.

We’re building a modern virtual care provider that can meet this need, combining the best of compassionate physician care with infinitely scalable technology to fit profitably into the real world of insurance reimbursement.

46% of Patients Reach the Remission Range

Today we have 2,000 patients in our program, and we deliver 46% of them into the A1C range for diabetic remission – that is, the lab range for someone without diabetes.  This adds years to their lives, offsets hundreds of thousands in lifetime healthcare costs, and significantly reduces the risk of heart disease and cognitive decline.

Doing It Profitably

The key to making all of this work is provider leverage.  We make technology that gives our doctors superpowers.  They can complete documentation in a fraction of the time of their peers (<20%) and handle group medical sessions with ease (one of the best-reimbursed services in healthcare because it’s usually so arduous).

We built our own EMR platform, connecting every decision physicians make to real patient data – including readiness-for-change, behavioral momentum, and more.

Our patients spend only a couple of hours with physicians but have more than 20x hours of connection with their physicians – as they learn through personalized content, understand their disease through interactive reports that contextualize their data, and work step-by-step through implementing their recommended lifestyle changes.  In the future we will leverage LLMs to answer patient questions and guide them through changes, further increasing this provider leverage ratio.

We’re going to shrink this market

Diabetes is a $237B market in the US.  Diabetes reversal and maintenance will be a $36B market.  For every $1 spent on diabetes reversal, we offset $15 spent on diabetes care.  And that’s great because the healthcare system needs those dollars for other things.

Type 2 diabetes is just the beginning, as lifestyle medicine can also transform costs across a range of cardiometabolic diseases.  LifestyleRx is the lifestyle prescription for those diseases, and we intend to build a solution that can scale to the size of this vast problem.
